The Project
When specialist brewery Primordial Brewing, acquired an industrial site in South East London, they faced the challenge of refurbishing it to withstand the rigorous brewing environment. The project required an exceptionally robust flooring and drainage solution capable of meeting these demanding conditions.
Brewing and beverage production presents a particularly challenging environment for flooring. Regular wash-downs, standing water, spillages, chemical exposure, foot traffic and the movement of equipment all place significant demands on the floor. Effective drainage is equally important, as preventing standing water is essential to maintaining a hygienic, safe and easily maintained production area.
Specialist resin installers UltraSyntec Ltd, completed the floor and drainage installation, utilising a high-performance resin flooring solution from the Pumadur Range of products, providing durability, high-performance and long-lasting solution.
The Solution
The project required a robust, hygienic flooring solution capable of withstanding the demanding conditions of a brewery environment. Pumadur RT was selected as the resin system due to its high resistance to heavy traffic, impact, abrasion, chemical attack and thermal shock, making it well suited to areas exposed to moisture, cleaning regimes and aggressive operating conditions.
As part of the installation, UltraSyntec incorporated an ACO Building Drainage system to effectively manage wastewater and solids. The team prepared the floor with a sand and cement screed, building a precise fall to the drain to ensure efficient water run-off and minimise standing water.
The team also installed a fully sealed concrete kerbing to provide hygienic transitions and contain liquids within the working areas. With the drainage, falls and substrate preparation complete, the Pumadur RT system provides a durable, seamless and chemically resistant resin floor designed to perform reliably within the brewery environment.
The System
- Pumadur RT is a 6–9mm resin-rich, water-dispersed polyurethane floor screed designed for heavy-duty industrial environments. It provides a seamless, textured surface with a durable matt finish.
- The Pumadur Range comprises of HACCP- Certified systems designed for hygiene critical environments, including breweries, food and beverage processing facilities, manufacturing plants, and chemical processing areas. Pumadur systems provide excellent resistance to heavy traffic, impact, abrasion, chemical attack, and thermal shock, ensuring long-lasting performance in challenging industrial conditions.
- Its seamless, hygienic and easy-to-clean finish provides strong slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions, while its durability makes it suitable for areas subject to intensive use and regular cleaning.
- FeRFA Classification: Type 8 – Heavy Duty Resin Flooring. Trowel-finished, aggregate-filled systems, effectively impervious throughout their thickness. Very Heavy Duty >6mm.
