HGV Workshop – Keeping The Wheels Turning

1,600m² Resin Flooring for a HGV Workshop at the MAN UK Dealership

The Project
PSC Flooring were tasked with upgrading a busy HGV Workshop for a MAN UK Dealership in Hereford. The refurbishment required a safe, durable floor capable of withstanding operational wear, point loading with regular foot and vehicle traffic, all whilst maintaining a clean, professional working environment.

With HGV pits, heavy vehicle lifts and sensitive diagnostic machinery, the workshop required a highly resilient surface that could withstand the demands of day-to-day operations as well as improving safety and visibility.

The client required a tough floor with all round chemical resistance, with minimal disruption to the working facility. To reduce downtime, the installation was carefully planned as a two-phase installation process using Pumatect, a two-coat high-performance epoxy resin system.

Before any coating could be applied, the PSC Flooring team carried out intensive mechanical preparation to ensure a suitable mechanical key for the epoxy coating. The main floor was prepared using a heavy-duty triple-headed diamond grinder, with handheld diamond grinders used around the HGV pits, vehicle lifts and edge perimeters.

The area was then thoroughly vacuumed before localised cracks and holes were repaired, providing a clean and level foundation ready for the new resin flooring system.

The Solution
PSC Flooring installed two coats of Pumatect High Build Epoxy Resin across the full 1,600m² workshop in Mid Grey.

Safety Yellow demarcation was applied around the HGV pits, testing equipment and rolling road, together with 190 linear metres of reversing lines. This clearly defined key operational areas, improved visibility and helped create a safer, more organised working environment.

Completed in just 10 days, the installation delivered a durable, hardwearing and easy-to-maintain resin floor, designed to withstand the demanding conditions of a busy HGV workshop. The fresh, bright finish significantly improved the overall appearance of the workshop, creating a cleaner and more professional working environment. The combination of the Mid Grey floor and Safety Yellow markings also complements the industrial setting, giving the space a clear, well-defined and modern aesthetic.

The finished floor provides a robust, seamless surface capable of handling regular vehicle traffic and exposure to substances including grease, oil and fuel, while the clear safety demarcation supports vehicle movement and day-to-day operations.

The System

  • Pumatect is a hardwearing, high-build epoxy resin coating system designed for demanding industrial and commercial environments. It provides a durable, impervious surface suitable for areas subject to heavy traffic and regular use.
  • The system provides excellent resistance to abrasion and wear, making it well suited to demanding applications such as vehicle workshops, garages and industrial working environments.
  • Its seamless finish provides a practical surface that is easy to maintain, while the availability of contrasting colours and safety demarcation allows the system to be incorporated into clearly defined operational and traffic areas.
  • FeRFA Classification: Type 3 – High Build Floor Coating Applied in two or more coats. Generally solvent free. Medium Duty with a typical thickness of 300μm to 1000μm.
