Highland Spring – Multiple Borehole Refurbishments

Protecting Purity at the Source: A Seamless Resin Overhaul Across the Scottish Highlands

The Project
Deep within the remote Scottish Highlands, Highland Spring operates a network of critical infrastructure safeguarding one of the UK’s most trusted natural water sources. Over decades of continuous operation, twelve of their vital borehole pump houses had begun to show their age.

The existing systems had severely deteriorated. Constant environmental exposure and natural dampness caused the original coatings to fail, resulting in localised blistering, moisture entrapment, and systemic mould growth. Left unaddressed, these compromised subfloor conditions threatened the strict hygienic and regulatory standards required within extraction facilities.

Highland Spring required a complete, high-performance structural overhaul and a long-term solution capable of resisting moisture, inhibiting organic growth, protecting these essential assets for decades to come.

The Solution
Refurbishing twelve separate facilities scattered across a rugged, remote landscape presented a significant logistical challenge for the Signature Resin Team. The failing historic systems were removed and the underlying concrete substrates meticulously prepared to address the deep-seated moisture issues.

The installation demanded exceptional precision, with the team working within tightly confined spaces and carefully navigating a complex network of live pipework and extraction equipment. To combat the changing Scottish weather and challenging working conditions, temporary shelters were used during the resin mixing process. This helped protect the resin from the elements while preventing any risk of cross-contamination to the surrounding ground and natural water source.

Resdev’s advanced Pumadur RT polyurethane system was selected to provide a robust, long-term solution. Applied across all twelve pump houses, the new surface created a tough, impervious barrier, providing Highland Spring with durable, hygienic and hard-wearing facilities built to withstand the demands of their environment.

The System

  • Pumadur RT is a 6–9mm resin-rich, water-dispersed polyurethane floor screed designed for heavy-duty industrial environments. It provides a seamless, textured surface with a durable matt finish.
  • The Pumadur Range comprises of HACCP- Certified systems designed for hygiene critical environments, including healthcare facilities, breweries, food and beverage processing facilities, manufacturing plants, and chemical processing areas. Pumadur systems provide excellent resistance to heavy traffic, impact, abrasion, chemical attack, and thermal shock, ensuring long-lasting performance in challenging industrial conditions.
  • Its seamless, hygienic and easy-to-clean finish provides strong slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions, while its durability makes it suitable for areas subject to intensive use and regular cleaning.
  • FeRFA Classification: Type 8 – Heavy Duty Resin Flooring. Trowel-finished, aggregate-filled systems, effectively impervious throughout their thickness. Very Heavy Duty >6mm.
