Flooring designed to withstand demanding operational requirements of an emergency services facility.
The Project
When 2D Building Contractors Ltd took on the major refurbishment of the Monmouth Ambulance Station in South Wales, the task, install a flooring solution built to last and withstand their operational requirements.
The challenge? Transform 165m² of demanding floor space into a high-performance environment capable of withstanding constant, heavy vehicle loading, rigorous daily cleaning routines, and intense operational pressure.
To meet these strict requirements, Pumadur RT polyurethane screed was selected as the ideal resin flooring system.
Following extensive substrate preparation by PSC Flooring, including diamond grinding and localised concrete repairs, Pumaprime DPM was installed to deal with the residual moisture in the concrete, with a scatter of quartz to act as an extra anchor for the Pumadur RT screed system; which was subsequently installed at a nominal thickness of 6mm, to create a durable, heavy-duty floor finish.
The Solution
The flooring was installed in Mid Grey and Green, to create clear definition between operational zones. The design also incorporated Safety Yellow pedestrian walkways and entrance hatching, helping improve visibility and clearly distinguish pedestrian routes from vehicle movements within the station.
Despite demanding preparation requirements, the flooring installation was completed by PSC Flooring in just five working days, keeping the project on programme and within budget.
The floor now provides the ambulance station with a durable, slip-resistant and easy-to-maintain surface capable of dealing with the realities of a busy operational facility.
From initial substrate preparation, through to the final safety markings, the project was approached with the practical demands of the ambulance station in mind; installing a finished floor that supports heavy vehicle movements, rigorous cleaning and the day-to-day activity of the emergency services team.
The System
- Pumadur RT is a 6–9mm resin-rich, water-dispersed polyurethane floor screed designed for heavy-duty industrial environments. It provides a seamless, textured surface with a durable matt finish.
- The Pumadur Range comprises of HACCP- Certified Systems, designed specifically for hygiene critical environments, including healthcare facilities, breweries, food and beverage processing facilities, manufacturing plants, and chemical processing areas. The systems provide excellent resistance to heavy traffic, impact, abrasion, chemical attack, and thermal shock, ensuring long-lasting performance in challenging industrial conditions.
- Its seamless, hygienic and easy-to-clean finish provides strong slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions, while its durability makes it suitable for areas subject to intensive use and regular cleaning.
- FeRFA Classification: Type 8 – Heavy Duty Resin Flooring. Trowel-finished, aggregate-filled systems, effectively impervious throughout their thickness. Very Heavy Duty >6mm.
