Hard Wearing, Hygienic Flooring Surfaces From Resdev

Specifying a floor for a food processing area presents a number of challenges. Alongside robust and hard wearing characteristics, flooring surfaces must be easy to clean for reasons of hygiene and also offer good levels of slip resistance to manage both wet and dry processing environments. Pumadur RT by Resdev matches all the requirements.

Hard wearing and hygienic food industry flooring

When specialist industrial flooring contractors PSC Flooring Ltd were requested to install a new 1400m2 flooring surface for a major food manufacturer in Skelmersdale, Pumadur RT met all the specifications. The client needed a floor that was hard wearing, seamless and easy to clean for reasons of hygiene, capable of providing slip resistance in wet processing conditions and with a projected design life of ten years.

Seamless steam cleanable options

Pumadur RT is a heavy duty polyurethane screed offering the highest levels of durability, and is classified by FeRFA – the UK’s governing body for resin flooring – as Type 8, making it one of the most hard wearing, robust screeds on the market today. This material provides significant benefits for the food processing industry, being seamless, impervious to moisture ingress and not supporting microbial growth. Pumadur RT is easy to maintain and can be steam cleaned at temperatures up to 120oC when laid at a thickness of 9mm.

For this application, PSC Flooring Ltd recommended Pumadur RT heavy duty polyurethane screed at a thickness of 6mm as the best option, providing a practical and durable solution for food grade floors that are consistently subjected to spillages and require regular clean down.

Careful preparation for a high quality, durable finish

The team from PSC Flooring Ltd first shotblasted the flooring surface clean and carried out anchor channel saw cuts around all drains, expansion joints and door entrances. A single coat of Pumaprime SF epoxy resin primer was applied across the floor, and all necessary flooring repairs were completed. Pumadur RT was then applied at a depth of 6mm in a colour specified by the client. All expansion joints were mirrored through the resin screed and infilled with matching jointing compound.

The entire project was completed in two weeks, on time and to budget, providing the client with a safe, attractive and durable resin flooring surface ideally suited to the food processing environment.
